The creation of the Millenium Falcon

The Millenium Falcon in itself could have a movie made on it. We know from Han in A New Hope that it made the Kessel Run in "less than twelve parsecs." Which doesn't give much context however we know that one parsec is 3.26 light years which is equal to 19 trillion miles. Now in Star Wars talk the Kessel Run is  "an 18-parsec route used by smugglers," according to the expanded universe. This also gives some context of not just the speed of the ship but its ability to navigate the galaxy.

Its design had many models drafted to find out what would look the best, provide lots of storage and space for several people to roam the cabin and also provided a spacey look. After George Lucas saw the first drafts he said, "I don't care if you need to make it look like a flyince saucer, give it a more spacey look."  Which led to this look.

The Millenium Falcon

This showed a spacey look with the "saucer" look and feel while maintain the very realistic cabins, airways, ventalation vents, satelite tower and more. It looks like a space ship without losing any of the realistic feel and and look.

We also hear Han Solo say that the Millenium Falcon can fly "0.5 past lightspeed." implying it can fly 1.5 times past light speed which in reality is 279,000 miles per second which is incredible. We can't comprehend these speeds with our brains.

According to various sources out there, the size of the far, far away galaxy in which the Star Wars stories take place is said to be about 120,000 light years from one side to the other.

So, if the Millennium Falcon travelled 38,000 light years in 12 hours, that means it flies about 3,167 light years per hour.
